After a busy day yesterday, Torbay Coastguard probably could have done with some sleep but unfortunately that wasn’t to be, with 3 early norning call outs this morning, Friday 28th June.
The first at 00:38 was to reports of an SOS flashing light at Corbyn’s beach in Torquay. A man who was drinking was located and escorted off of the beach. He was also given safety advice as he’d been considering going swimming.
The next was at 02:16 to reports of a missing female in the Meedfoot Beach area, the female was located safe and well by the police dog.
Following this incident, at 03:54, the team were tasked again by Maritime and Coastguard Agency to assist Teignmouth coastguard and Devon & Cornwall Police with a male on the cliff at Shaldon. Teams stood off whilst police units managed to talk the male back to a place of safety.
Coastguard crews had a busy day yesterday. Two men died after being pulled from the water off Babbacombe, more here.
Two people who had been kayaking were also rescued off Preston yesterday afternoon, more here.
Another person was winched to safety from the sea near ‘London Bridge’ rock, more here.
