Police in Teignmouth have appealed for information after a gun was found by a dog walker.
Scenes of crimes officers were called to examine the gun in situ and it was identified as a blank firing pistol.
“At about 15.30hrs on Tuesday 9th January 2018 Police were informed that a hand gun had been located by a local dog walker.
Posting on Facebook, Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police said: “The gun was located in an area known locally as Little Haldon Heath, Teignmouth.
“Police attended the scene and on confirming that the item appeared to be genuine called a scene of crime officer to examine the gun in situ.
“The gun has been identified as a blank firing pistol.”
Teignmouth Police added that If anyone has information that could help the police identify the owner of the starter pistol they are asked to call Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 quoting Log 442 09.01.18
