£1,000 for Plymouth football team

One of Plymouth’s largest developers has given its backing to a local football club through a £1,000 donation.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon – the housebuilder behind the Saltram Meadows site in Plymstock – presented the cheque to Elburton Villa FC’s junior side at their playing fields off Haye Road.

The club, established in 1982, has a senior side that plays in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division West, whilst they also provide footballing opportunities for 400 local children. They have teams participating in the Devon Junior & Minor League from Under 7s to Under 18s.

The accredited five-star builder has flats and houses from £220,995 available at Saltram Meadows, and also has three-bed homes for sale at Palmerston Heights in Derriford from £349,995.

Persimmon donates £700,000 to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain each year through its Community Champions programme. Recent recipients include St Luke’s Hospice, Plymouth Argyle FC’s Community Foundation, Plymouth Night Patrol, and Argyle Pride.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon Sales Director Jane Cartwright, said:

“As a local developer providing hundreds of new family homes in Plymstock, it felt more than appropriate to lend a helping hand to local institutions that contribute to making the area a great place to live.

“So, we are very happy to be supporting Elburton Villa’s young players with this donation, so they can keep doing what they do best and giving children and young people here a chance to play the sport they love and learn some great teamworking skills along the way.”

Kevin Treeby, Chairman of Elburton Villa FC, added:

“We are grateful to Persimmon for their donation and honoured to have been chosen as Community Champions.

“Elburton Villa is very proud of what we do in the local community and these funds will help us give our players an outlet for their sporting energies, which is great for their emotional and physical wellbeing.”
