Torbay RNLI have said a body was seen in the sea off Meadfoot in Torquay this morning by a Rescue Helicopter.
They stated that the body disappeared before it could be recovered and Police divers are due to arrive at Meadfoot shortly.
RNLI inshore and all weather boat were searching the coastline this morning, along with coastguard, police and a helicopter.
A spokesperson for Torbay RNLI said on their website:
“The ALB additionally joined the ILB search around 10:00 as well as Rescue Helicopter 106. The search area was extended from Broadsands to Corbyn Head. At approx. 11:00 Helo Rescue 106 observed a body face down in the sea near Meadfoot Beach. Both lifeboats diverted to attend but before recovery could occur the body disappeared. An extensive search failed to locate anyone,”
Police dive teams are expected to attend shortly.
Searches have been on going today to locate a missing person in the area. It is not known if these incidents are connected.
