The A379 between Kenton and Starcross was closed following a road traffic collision.
It reopened at 2pm this afternoon
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.45am this morning.
A motorcyclist, a 27 year old man from Teignmouth has been seriously injured.
The motorcyclist was trapped under a Mitsubishi Shogun.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics after being freed by the fire service, and then taken by air ambulance to DerrifordHospital, Plymouth.
Police say that the extent of his injuries are not yet known but are believed to be life changing.
The serious collisions investigation unit are carrying out an investigation of the scene.
The A379 has been closed at the Powderham turn-off and on the other side of Kenton.
Highways are assisting with diversions from the Matford roundabout on the Exeter side, and from Starcross onto the A380.
The road is expected to be closed for at least four hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
