All the fun of the fair in Kingsteignton.

Community-conscious colleagues at Tesco Newton Abbot were on hand to help with events at the traditional King’s Teignton Ram Fair.

They gave out fruit to the fair-goers, as well as donating a £100 gift card for the raffle, having supported the annual event for many years.

Janette Parker, the store’s Community Champion, said: “The Ram Fair is one of the biggest events of the community’s calendar year.

“It’s organised by selfless volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure everything goes brilliantly. Lots of local organisations support the fair, helping to raise funds for good causes that are central to the community.

“We’re always delighted to support the event as best we can. There’s a great atmosphere every year, with traditional Maypole dancing, races for children and adults, and a variety of other fun things.

“The fair is a very old festival dating from the Middle Ages. It began when there was a drought, with not enough water to baptise a child, so a ram was sacrificed and the drought was broken, allowing the child to be baptised.

“This is how the fair today got its name, and we still give thanks, but nowadays the ram is blessed.”
