Ambulance Trust board to hear save paignton ambulance station petition plea

A petition signed by hundreds of concerned residents calling for Paignton Ambulance Station to be saved, will be presented to the Board of the South West Ambulance Foundation Trust tomorrow (Thursday 3rd July 2025) by local health campaigner and former Torbay MP Kevin Foster.

Paignton Ambulance Station, on Totnes Road in the heart of Paignton, can house four emergency ambulances, which are regularly crewed and deployed from this location. The Ambulance Station is currently located in a building rented by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAFT) which is shared with St John Ambulance. It has been revealed this building will no longer be available for their operational use when their current lease ends and will not be renewed, throwing its future into doubt.

The “Save Paignton Ambulance Station” petition was launched by Kevin Foster in April, with nearly 900 residents having signed it calling on the trust to work with partners, including Torbay Council, to find an alternative location in the town, rather than see the town lose its ambulance station.

Following the launch of the petition the trust (SWAFT) confirmed to Kevin they are looking at “alternative arrangements”, but no confirmation has yet been given of Paignton having its own Ambulance Station in future. Campaigners fighting to save the service have delivered nearly 10,000 leaflets to homes across Paignton promoting the campaign.

Commenting Kevin Foster said:

“The loss of the current site should not mean the loss of Paigton’s Ambulance Station. There are alternative locations available where ambulances could be based in Paignton and the trust must relocate their resources there, not take them elsewhere with Paignton losing out.”
