From 6 March, visitors to Torre Abbey can experience something truly unique as The National Gallery: Art on Your Doorstep launches in Torquay.
This exciting free art trail brings stunning replica masterpieces from the world-famous The National Gallery directly into the heart of our community — transforming familiar streets and harbourside spots into cultural landmarks.
Installed by the dedicated team at Torre Abbey alongside local environmental services provider SWISCo, the trail makes it possible to experience some of the greatest works in art history without leaving South Devon.
Bringing Art to the Heart of Torbay
Rather than being confined to the walls of a London gallery, these high-quality replicas have been carefully placed in locations around Torquay and the wider Bay — inviting residents and visitors alike to encounter timeless classics as part of their everyday lives.
From iconic favourites to celebrated masterpieces, the trail offers a rare opportunity to get up close to works that have shaped centuries of artistic expression. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply enjoying a stroll along the harbour, there’s something magical about discovering world-class art in unexpected places.
We’ve already spotted several pieces around Torquay — with more waiting to be discovered.

Free, Accessible and Inspiring
One of the most exciting aspects of Art on Your Doorstep is its accessibility. The trail is completely free, making it a wonderful activity for families, schools, visitors and locals of all ages.
It’s part of a wider mission to break down barriers to art and culture, ensuring that everyone — regardless of background — has the chance to experience creativity at the highest level.
The project has been made possible thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, alongside The National Gallery and SWISCo.
Plan Your Visit
The trail officially opens on 6 March, with Torre Abbey Museum serving as a key starting point.
Visitors can explore at their own pace, discovering artworks dotted around Torquay Harbour and beyond. Whether you make a dedicated day of it or stumble across a masterpiece during your morning coffee walk, it’s an experience designed to surprise and delight.
