A BBC radio Devon DJ has lost his job after playing a song on containing a racist word on his ‘golden oldies’ show.

David quit after the BBC apparently suggested that he ‘fell on his own sword’

David Lowe, 68, is reported to have said he was unaware that a 1932 version of The Sun Has Got His Hat On included the n-word.

The second verse of the song,  by the UK dance band Ambrose and his Orchestra, has the line:
“He’s been tanning [n-word] out in Timbuktu, now he’s coming back to do the same to you.”
The offensive word was removed from later versions of the song.

The BBC has reported that David Lowe has since been offered his job back but has declined due to health reasons.
