Bloor Homes brings new allotments to Pinhoe as final 5 homes come to market

Bloor Homes is marking a milestone at its Pinhoe development in Exeter with the handover of 11 new allotments and five accessible raised beds to the local community – as the final 5 homes at the development come to market.

Each allotment plot comes equipped with its own shed and access to running water, giving new plot holders everything they need to get growing straight away. The allotments will be managed by Broadclyst Parish Council who will have control of the Tenancy Agreement, waiting lists and annual charges per plot, ensuring the spaces are run in a way that works best for the local community.

The handover comes at a time when demand for allotment space continues to grow. According to The National Allotment Society (NAS), a not-for-profit body representing 130,000 allotment holders across the UK, a study by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) found that at least 174,000 people were on local authority waiting lists across Britain in 2023 according to Freedom of Information data obtained from councils — suggesting demand continues to outstrip supply. *

The Society notes that while there were 1.4 million allotments in the UK after the Second World War, by the 1970s that number had been cut by two thirds.

The NAS actively works with developers, planning officers and building experts to encourage allotments to be incorporated into new residential developments, an approach Bloor Homes has embraced at Pinhoe.

Sara Parker, Sales Director for Bloor Homes’ Exeter region, said: “Reaching the final homes at Pinhoe is a real milestone for us, and handing over the allotments feels like the perfect way to mark it. When we plan a new community, we think about what residents – and the wider area – will genuinely benefit from, and allotments tick so many boxes. They bring people together, support healthy outdoor living and give people the satisfaction of growing their own food.

“We’re pleased to be passing these well-equipped plots on to Broadclyst Parish Council, who will look after them for the long term, and we hope they’ll be enjoyed by the community for many years to come.”

With just 5 two, three and four bedroom homes remaining at Bloor Homes at Pinhoe, this is the final opportunity to purchase a new home at the development.
