The body of a woman has been recovered from the sea off Torquay this afternoon Police have confirmed.
Following an extensive coastline search for a missing woman which started this morning, Police recovered a body this afternoon from the Meadfoot area.
A body was spotted in the water by Helo Rescue 106 late morning but the body then went out of sight and was later recovered.
A spokesperson for Torbay RNLI said on their website earlier:
“The ALB additionally joined the ILB search around 10:00 as well as Rescue Helicopter 106. The search area was extended from Broadsands to Corbyn Head. At approx. 11:00 Helo Rescue 106 observed a body face down in the sea near Meadfoot Beach. Both lifeboats diverted to attend but before recovery could occur the body disappeared. An extensive search failed to locate anyone,”
The body was later found this afternoon.
Formal identification has not taken place.
