Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Exeter in which a 12-year-old boy died.

Emergency services were called to Topsham Road near Countess Wear at 3.10pm yesterday (28 August) after a collision between the boy and a skip lorry at the zebra crossing.

The boy, from Exeter, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for five hours while serious collision investigators carried out an examination of the scene.

Police are carrying out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101, quoting log 480 of 28/08/2014.
