Burts Snacks enters First Class travel with Great Western Railway
Award-winning producer, Burts Snacks, has expanded its partnership with Great Western Railway (GWR), with its crisps now available in a new pack format for First Class passengers.
From July 2026, First Class passengers travelling on GWR services will be offered Burts’ Lightly Sea Salted hand-cooked crisps in a new 25g pack format, created specifically for onboard snacking. The smaller packs feature a distinctive roundel colour to differentiate them from the brand’s standard 40g retail packs.
With consumers increasingly seeking convenient premium snacks while on the move, demand for travel retail and on-the-go formats continues to grow. Rising passenger numbers across UK rail networks are also creating new opportunities for brands within the transport sector[1], making the launch particularly timely for Burts’ expansion.
The new travel format will be produced using 40-micron film, designed to offer a convenient snacking option for rail passengers, while maintaining the same award-winning recipe made with British Red Tractor-assured potatoes and sea salt.
The launch forms part of Burts’ wider expansion strategy across new retail and convenience channels. Commenting on the new partnership, Sas Horscroft, Head of Marketing of Burts Snacks Ltd said: “We’re always looking for new opportunities to grow the Burts brand and partnering with Great Western Railway marks an exciting step into travel retail sector for us. Launching a bespoke format for rail passengers allows us to bring our premium hand-cooked crisps to consumers in a new environment, while also opening the door to wider opportunities across the travel sector.”
Helen da Costa, Head of Marketing from Great Western Railway added: “We strive to create an enjoyable passenger experience across every journey, and partnering with Burts Snacks allows us to enhance our onboard offering with a premium, British-made product. The new 25g format is perfectly suited to rail travel and gives First Class customers a convenient, high-quality snack to enjoy while travelling.”
The launch follows Burts’ recent rollout of HFSS-compliant core flavours, reflecting the brand’s continued focus on evolving consumer habits and expansion into new retail channels, including travel retail and on-the-go formats.
