Clare McAdam, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at Devon Partnership NHS Trust, has been presented with a Cavell Star Award – a national accolade recognising nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who “shine bright and show exceptional care to their colleagues, patients and families.”
Clare, who qualified as a nurse in 1987, has dedicated 41 years to mental health care in Devon. She was nominated for the award by Chief Nursing Officer Hazel Powell, who praised Clare’s outstanding contribution to mental health nursing.

Hazel said: “Clare is an exceptional mental health nurse who embodies the best of nursing – compassion, courage and commitment to improving care for patients and staff alike. She leads authentically with humility and purpose, creating an environment where people feel seen, supported and inspired to deliver their best.
“She listens deeply, connects personally and ensures every voice counts. Clare never seeks recognition, but her impact is everywhere – she doesn’t just lead nursing, she lifts nursing!”
The Cavell Star Awards are organised by Cavell, a charity dedicated to supporting UK nurses, midwives and nursing associates—both working and retired—during times of personal or financial hardship. The charity provides tailored packages of support to those in need.
Clare’s recognition highlights the ongoing dedication of healthcare professionals working across Devon’s mental health services.
