A £1,000 donation from holiday letting company Classic Cottages is helping to support a vital community transport service in South Devon.

The money has been given to Ivybridge Ring and Ride, part of the Ivybridge & District Community Transport Association, which provides accessible minibus transport for people who find it physically difficult to use conventional public transport or who live too remotely to access it.

The service operates two minibuses used regularly by around 45 people each week, offering trips to local destinations and essential shopping journeys, as well as monthly social excursions to places such as pubs and garden centres.

The Ivybridge Ring and Ride service plays an important role in reducing isolation and improving quality of life for people who might otherwise struggle to get out and about.

Lauren Grindle, Assistant Coordinator for the Ivybridge & District Community Transport Association, said: “We rely heavily on fundraising and donations, so this generous contribution from Classic Cottages makes a real difference. It helps us meet the day-to-day costs of keeping the service running and maintaining the vehicles.

“This is so much more than a transport service – for many of our passengers it’s a real social lifeline. People who live alone or in isolated areas really look forward to their trips. They make friends, they look out for each other, and it gives them something to look forward to each week.”

Nicola Williams, Classic Cottages’ Area Manager for South Devon who lives in Ivybridge and is based in their South Brent office, said: “We’re delighted to support the Ivybridge Ring and Ride service. It’s clear how much this means to the local community and how valuable it is for people who would otherwise find it hard to stay connected. Supporting community initiatives like this is a big part of what we do at Classic Cottages, and we’re really pleased to help such a caring local service continue its work.”

The Ivybridge & District Community Transport Association is also appealing for volunteer drivers, both for its minibus service and its volunteer car scheme, which helps people attend essential appointments. Classic Cottages is part of Sapphire Holidays, the Cornwall-based group of self-catering holiday letting agencies which also includes Aspects Holidays, Boutique Retreats, Unique Hideaways and Island Escapes.
