Collaborative artwork celebrates school’s setting, community and values

Students at Thomas Hall School in Exeter have worked with artist Pete Stevenson, known as Pete the Poet, to create a striking new mural that will welcome students and visitors to the school.

The large artwork, installed at the main entrance, has been inspired by the beauty of the grounds and the diversity of the school community. It also reflects the school’s values of Belong, Inspire and Grow, with students working alongside Pete to add their own creative touches and help shape the final design.

The mural includes a colourful meadow scene, with students contributing elements such as flowers to create a lasting piece of artwork inspired by both the natural surroundings and the young people who learn there.

The project formed part of Enrichment Week, giving students the opportunity to work with a professional artist while helping create a permanent feature for the school.

Set within beautiful woodland grounds and a Grade II-listed former manor house, Thomas Hall School provides a distinctive backdrop for learning, with the new mural celebrating the character of the site and its growing sense of community.

Charlotte Webster, Head of School at Thomas Hall School, said:

“It has been wonderful to see our students getting involved in creating a mural that celebrates our unique school environment and community. Working with Pete the Poet has given them the chance to share their ideas, explore their creativity and contribute to something they can feel proud of. We are hugely grateful to Pete for working with our students and helping bring this project to life.”
