A single bus journey will cost just £1 on all bus services in Devon and Torbay across three ‘Super Saturdays’ this January.

This New Year special offer is delivered through the DevonBus Partnership, in conjunction with bus operators.

Open to all, £1 single journeys will be available on 11th, 18th and 25th January 2025. The initiative is designed to encourage more people to use the bus for leisure to explore their local area, visit family and friends and enjoy the stunning coast and countryside across Devon.

Stagecoach South West Managing Director Peter Knight said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this discount to Devon and Torbay residents thanks to our partnership with Devon County Council and Torbay Council. January can typically be a quiet month for people, so we hope by providing this discount it enables people to explore new places and try new things.”

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “The cost-of-living crisis continues to be an issue so we’re hoping that this initiative provides a little bit of help to bus passengers in Devon and Torbay at the start of the year. The £1 single fare for the next three Saturdays has been made possible with Bus Service Improvement Plan funding and it provides people with a chance to either try their local bus service or to get out and about for less.”

Councillor Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place and Parking for Torbay Council, said; “The Super Saturdays initiative is a great opportunity to get around for less on Saturdays in January. Whether visiting family, one of our great towns or natural spaces, £1 single fares provide a simple and affordable travel option. We’d encourage everyone to use the bus on Saturdays this January.”

The routes included in this offer cover a wide area across Devon and detailed information about the specific routes and timetables can be found on the Travel Devon website https://www.devon.cc/supersaturdays

This offer is made possible by both Devon County Council and Torbay Council through Bus Service Improvement Plan funding. The initiative is also part of a joint, long-standing commitment between operators and Devon and Torbay transport authorities, to provide reliable and affordable services whilst working together to enhance the travel experience for passengers and support sustainable travel solutions.

For anyone travelling by bus Monday to Friday, and Sundays, from 1st January 2025 a single bus journey is capped at a maximum of £3 as part of the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme. This means that £3 is the maximum you will pay, with lots of single journeys across England still less than £3, offering great value on everyday trips especially within towns and cities.
