Pupils at Drake Primary Academy, part of the Reach South Academy Trust, have enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to the Tamar Bridge, where they explored the world of engineering through hands-on activities and real-world experiences.
The trip gave pupils the opportunity to walk across the bridge and take in the impressive views over the water, helping them to understand the scale and purpose of this important local landmark.
During their visit, the children took part in a range of engaging activities in the learning centre. They discovered the four different types of bridges, carried out research, and created their own drawings to showcase their understanding. The young engineers also completed a quiz to test their knowledge and used a variety of materials to design and build their own model bridges.
The visit brought classroom learning to life, allowing pupils to develop their curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun and memorable way.
Adding to the excitement, pupils looked the part in their high-visibility jackets, kindly provided by the school’s PTA, ensuring they stayed safe while exploring the site. Staff praised the children for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day, with many showing a keen interest in how structures are designed and built.
The trip forms part of the school’s commitment to providing enriching, hands-on learning experiences that inspire young minds and encourage a love of discovery from an early age.
Jacqueline Stephens, Executive Headteacher at Drake Primary Academy, said: “It was fantastic to see our pupils so engaged and excited about their learning. Experiences like this bring the curriculum to life and help children develop curiosity, creativity and confidence. We are incredibly grateful for opportunities that allow our young learners to explore, ask questions and think like real engineers.”
