Evans set to close, Topshop gone and many more to follow

[fourcol_three]Evans is the next high street shop closing it’s doors in Torquay this year as a long list prepares to follow suit.[/fourcol_three] [fourcol_one_last][fblike style=”button_count” showfaces=”false” width=”450″ verb=”like” font=”arial”] [twitter style=”horizontal” float=”left”] [/fourcol_one_last]

Closing Date

With Evans set to close indefinitely and many more planned to follow, is Torquay’s high street falling into it’s worse period in years?

The Body Shop closed recently leaving an empty outlet in a high footfall area of town, with Topshop following suit earlier this month and Evans closing on the 14th of June there will certainly be a ghostly presence whilst shoppers parade through town.

The Body Shop left a notice in the window of it’s old Torquay store just before it vacated, alerting customers of it’s nearest available store which is in Torquay’s neighbouring town, Newton Abbot.

Topshop left a similar notice which will come as a relief to some regular shoppers of the store. Topshop is a subsidiary of Arcadia Group who have set up the shop in its Outfit retail outlet at the willows.

More stores are set to become vacant in the coming months as the Lease’s expire along Fleet Walk, is Torquay about to become a ghost town or will a revival begin to take shape this year?
