Work to improve flood infrastructure on Bradley Lane leat is set to begin next week in Newton Abbot.
Teignbridge District Council confirmed that from Monday 15 September, contractors will start a project in Vicary’s Field Community Gardens to install a new overflow culvert and upgrade the site’s flood defences.
The scheme will divert capacity from the leat into the River Lemon upstream, increasing flood resilience and helping to reduce the risk of flooding further downstream.
Although the leat itself will remain in place for now, the works are described as an “enabling package” to prepare the site for future development on Bradley Lane.
The project is expected to take around seven weeks to complete. The council has contacted nearby residents to explain the planned works and has promised to minimise disruption as much as possible.
A spokesperson said: “We appreciate that there may be some disruption at times due to the works but we, along with our contractors, will do our best to keep this to a minimum.”
