You have probably heard of ‘Neknominate’ – A video of someone downing a drink (usually a pint of alcohol) and then nominating others to do the same within 24 hours.

So far there have been at least 4 deaths linked to the drinking game in The UK and Ireland.

At Winners 2000, they have a much healthier alternative and they’re raising money for charity. Instead of drinking challenges, they are nominating each other to do physical challenges. We spoke to Manager, Hannah Bryant to find out more;

“One of our Torquay trainers Ashwin Baker started this and we wanted to help raise money for one of the local  charities we support.  Luke Tillens – Torbay Holiday Helpers Network.  This is in line with our mission statement and business goals which can be found on our website”

The Torbay Holiday Helpers Network is a network of hotels, accommodation providers, tourist attractions and businesses who are all committed to helping give away free action packed holidays, services and experiences to families who have seriously/terminally ill (life threatening/limiting) children, to bereaved families who lost a child or parent and to families who have children where a parent is terminally ill.

“We are going to grow this out to our members now and not just trainers as it also gives us an ideal forum to show members and people who are interested in the gym a look into exercises and what the gym has to offer.  So the trainers are now going to start nominating members to do for example, so many press ups, body weight Prowler sprints for so many lengths, so that the members have a challenge that is ideally within or just past their limits to test them and then they can nominate back to the trainer or a friend etc and also donate to a charity of their choice.

It is a fun, safe challenge that can motivate others to try exercises that they would not necessarily do or have had the confidence to try.  At the same time is great to be showcasing the gym and the facilities we offer”
