Former Occombe Farm chefs find new home at Kents Cavern

The culinary team behind one of Torbay’s best-loved cafés is making a comeback. Following the closure of Occombe Farm Café in October, its former chefs have found a new home at Kents Cavern as the attraction prepares to relaunch Firestone Kitchen on Monday 12th January 2026.

“We know how much Occombe meant to the local communityand with our café relaunch planned for 2026 it made sense to reach out to the team and see if they wanted to come on board!” said Chloe Porter, F&B Manager at Kents Cavern. “Welcoming them to Firestone Kitchen allows us to build on that legacy while creating a relaxed, inclusive space for everyone.”

Located within the Kents Cavern site in Wellswood, the café overlooks the Ilsham Valley and offers free onsite parking. Though closely linked to the popular cave tours, Firestone Kitchen is being positioned as a standalone, community-friendly café, welcoming everything from informal catch-upsto remote workers, with free Wi-Fi throughout.

The refreshed all-day menu will feature brunch staples, sandwiches, paninis, and a classic Ploughman’s lunch, complete with Kents Cavern’s own Cave Aged Cheddar. Designed for comfort and accessibility, the venue caters to a broad mix of visitors, including families with young children. The space offers full level access, accessible toilets and baby-changing facilities.

To celebrate the relaunch, a loyalty scheme will reward customers with a free coffee after nine purchases. Kents Cavern members will continue to receive a 10% café discount, and a new birthday initiative will offer a complimentary breakfast on the day of a guest’s birthday (with photo ID).

Firestone Kitchen will also be available for private hire, offering a unique setting for small functions, family celebrations and local community events.
