Four of Teignbridge’s best-loved parks have once again been recognised among the UK’s finest green spaces after retaining their prestigious Green Flag Award status.
Decoy Countryside Park, Courtenay Park in Newton Abbot, Homeyards Botanical Garden in Shaldon and The Den in Teignmouth have all been awarded the internationally recognised quality mark for another year. The awards recognise parks that are safe, welcoming, well maintained and managed to the highest standards.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. A record 2,391 parks and green spaces across the UK received the award in 2026, with judges assessing sites on accessibility, maintenance, biodiversity, environmental management, safety and community involvement.
Teignbridge District Council says the achievement reflects the dedication of its staff and volunteers, who work throughout the year to ensure the parks remain clean, attractive and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Representatives from the Friends of Homeyards Botanical Garden joined the site’s gardener to celebrate the latest award, recognising the important role volunteers continue to play in caring for the popular Shaldon attraction.
Councillor Jackie Hook, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Climate and Sustainability, said: “I’m delighted that our parks have once again earned Green Flag Award status. It is a real testament to the dedication of our staff and volunteers who work hard all year round to keep these spaces looking their best.
“These parks are at the heart of our communities, offering places to connect, unwind and enjoy healthy, active lives. Everyone involved should feel incredibly proud.”
The Green Flag Award is regarded as the international benchmark for parks and green spaces, with judges carrying out independent assessments to ensure award-winning sites continue to meet high standards year after year.
