Pupils at Drake Primary Academy, part of Reach South Academy Trust, are getting a free breakfast and the chance to spend time with friends through the school’s new breakfast club.
Running every school day from 8am to 8.30am, the club gives every pupil the opportunity to have breakfast before lessons, helping them arrive in class ready to learn.
Children can also take part in activities including sports and playground games, arts and crafts, team challenges and creative activities.
For families who previously used the school’s paid breakfast provision from 7.30am, the cost of that session has also been reduced to reflect the new arrangements.
The club is part of the Department for Education’s Free Breakfast Clubs programme, which aims to give every state-funded primary school in England access to a free breakfast club.
Miss Jessica Plummer, Head of School at Drake Primary Academy, said:
“We are delighted to have launched our new free breakfast club and to be able to offer this opportunity to all of our pupils.
“It is about more than breakfast. We want children to have a welcoming start to the school day, with time to eat, play, spend time with their friends and get ready for learning.
“It has been fantastic to welcome pupils through the doors and see them enjoying the club.”
