Free climate and nature crisis film screening coming to Teignmouth Pavilions

A free screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing will take place at Teignmouth Pavilions on Friday 10 July, giving local residents the chance to watch the film and take part in a community discussion about the climate and nature crisis.

The event, which starts at 7pm, is being hosted by Teignbridge District Council and Action on Climate in Teignbridge as part of a UK-wide programme encouraging communities and decision-makers to explore the risks posed by climate change and nature loss, and what they mean locally.

The 50-minute film is based on the National Emergency Briefing held at Westminster Central Hall in November 2025, where experts presented evidence on the UK’s vulnerability to climate and nature-related risks. The public film brings together scientists and specialists to explain the potential impacts on areas including food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security.

Introduced by Chris Packham CBE, the briefing also highlights evidence-based actions that could help reduce these risks.

Following the screening, residents, community groups, local leaders and decision-makers will be invited to join a facilitated discussion about the issues raised and how they relate to communities across Teignbridge. Local MP Martin Wrigley is also expected to take part in the discussion.

Cllr Jackie Hook, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Climate and Sustainability, said the event would provide an opportunity for people to come together, consider the evidence and discuss what it means for the local area.

She said: “Climate and nature breakdown will impact our health, food systems, security and stability, but there is strong evidence that bold and urgent action will improve lives and livelihoods.”

The screening is also calling for public support for a prime-time televised emergency briefing on climate and nature risks, led by government and featuring independent experts.

Tickets are free, but advance booking is recommended. The event is listed by Teignmouth Pavilions as a free screening and discussion event on Friday 10 July at 7pm.

Tickets can be booked online via the Teignmouth Pavilions website.

I’ve written it in a format that should work as a **local news article**, with a headline, introduction, quotes and a clear call-to-action. I can also make it more “We Are South Devon” style with a shorter punchier intro and SEO-friendly headline if needed.
