From magical woodland trails to thrilling outdoor activities, the nation’s beautiful forests offer endless possibilities for creating special memories – many completely free of charge!*

Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening at Haldon Forest Park this half term:

Room on the Broom family adventure trail

Cost: £4 per trail pack

Get ready for a magical adventure with Witch and her friends! Help Witch find her lost hat, bow, and wand and collect special ingredients to complete the spell. Get the most from the trail with a trail pack from the Info Pod for just £4, with goodies and extra activities to entertain your little ones.

Go on a family bike ride

Cost: FREE, bike hire charges apply

Whether you’re on a balance bike or an off‑road pro, Haldon Forest Park has a trail to suit every rider. Start with a warm‑up on the pump track and work on your technique in the skills area, or simply enjoy a scenic ride with fantastic views. Bike Hire has a great range of bikes available, including tag‑alongs, recumbents, and e‑bikes.

Learn about amazing forests together

Cost: £5 per bag hire
Discover the forest’s amazing wildlife and towering trees with the easy, hands-on activities in our Forest Activity Bag. Spot brilliant creatures, uncover hidden woodland treasures, and see what you’ve learned with a fun forest quiz. Packed with up to four hours of adventures at your own pace – plus a goody bag for every child. Pull on your wellies and dive into the fun!

Find a walking trail

Cost: FREE

Choose a gentle stroll with plenty of great picnic spots, or head deeper into the forest for a more challenging hike. For little legs, the pushchair‑friendly Discovery Trail is packed with play features to keep them entertained for hours. If you’re after some peace and quiet, try the Butterfly Trail, which leads you through the heart of the forest. Whichever route you choose, the whole family can join in with our all‑terrain mobility scooter hire.

Gruffalo orienteering

Cost: £1.50 per Gruffalo orienteering leaflet, including map and certificate

Take on a Gruffalo orienteering challenge with the whole family! This fun, family‑friendly adventure brings children and adults together to discover twelve hidden Gruffalo markers around the forest. Use a special Gruffalo map to explore the deep dark wood while building confidence in map reading and decision‑making. No orienteering experience needed, we’ll show you everything you need to get started.

Explore award-winning photography

Older kids and grown-ups alike will find wonder among the trees with Earth Photo, an exhibition of contemporary photography from around the world. Shortlisted for the international Earth Photo competition, each piece reflects on issues affecting the climate and life on our planet.

Turn your family walk into a wildlife adventure! The forest is home to all kinds of amazing creatures, from tiny minibeasts to graceful roe deer.
