Houses were evacuated and a road closed following a fire at a car breakers in Woodbury yesterday.
Initially, 1 fire appliance from Sidmouth and 2 appliances from Exmouth were mobilised to the car breakers, after numerous reports of a fire.
Exmouth appliances were first on scene and reported one building well alight with a massive plume of smoke affecting the area.
An additional appliance from Budleigh Salterton was requested.
A further 6 appliances were later mobilised from Sidmouth, Crediton, Middlemoor, Exeter and Honiton – making a total of 10.

The breakers yard measures one hundred metres by seventy five metres, the fire involved workshops and more than two hundred vehicles.
The workshops and vehicles were destroyed by fire.
Acetylene, oxygen and propane cylinders were also involved in fire
Approximately thirty adjacent properties were evacuated to the village hall.
Globe Hill was closed both ways due to the fire as smoke was blowing across the road between Oakhayes Road and Fulford Way.
Police were on scene and directing traffic.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Service and Police
