Investigation following Torquay hotel fire

The fire service were called to reports of a fire at a Torquay hotel at approximately 9.30pm last night. It was reported that smoke was seen in the corridor of the building and the property was being evacuated.

One fire appliance from Torquay and one fire appliance from Paignton were mobilised to the incident on Croft Road.

Fire crews at the scene

Fire crews confirmed a fire involving sundries in a store cupboard within the first floor corridor of the Howden Court hotel.

The fire was extinguished by fire crews using two breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet, one carbon dioxide extinguisher, lighting, a thermal image camera and small tools to cut away hot spots.

Fire crews ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Service and Police.
