Walkers from leading law firm Kitson Boyce are tackling 200 kilometres of South Devon in five days to raise money for Torbay Communities to mark the company’s 200th anniversary.
This Saturday (May 16th), 48 members of the KB team will set out on a trek spanning the firm’s three office locations in Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth, ending on Wednesday (May 20th) at Mount Batten Breakwater in Plymouth.
It’s a huge challenge, but one that the team are confident will be a success, with all staff members encouraged to get involved, whether that’s signing up for a whole 40km day or pledging their own distance, ranging from 2-40km.
One of the organisers, Anthony McDowell, said: “Our legacy milestone provides an opportunity to recognise the collective effort that has shaped our organisation over two centuries. By taking on this challenge as a team, we aim to contribute positively to the community and highlight the values that continue to guide our work.”
Ryan added: “We are delighted to be organising the 200km challenge for the firm. It is a great opportunity to bring colleagues together, promote wellbeing, and ensure the challenge is inclusive for everyone.”
The firm is delighted to be taking on the challenge to raise £4,000 in aid of one of their chosen charity partners of the year, Torbay Communities.
Following discussions with more than 100 voluntary sector representatives, the Torbay Community Development Trust (TCDT) was established 11 years ago with the intention of making Torbay a place where all people feel included.
Now known as Torbay Communities, it works with the most vulnerable people in the community to reduce isolation amongst older people, support people facing financial crisis, coordinate food parcel provision, link people to mental health support, and enable people to prepare for a healthy later life. Using asset-based community development principles, it creates opportunities for people to influence local decision-making and challenge systems that work against them. It also offers support and guidance to the many local charities and community groups in Torbay.
Members of the Torbay Communities team will join KB trekkers on Sunday, 17th May, to cover the route between Babbacombe and Brixham.
Speaking on the initiative, Tracey Cabache, Director of Torbay Communities, said: “We are grateful to Kitson Boyce for their fundraising efforts on our behalf in their landmark 200th year. They clearly understand the importance of strong communities and want to support us in bringing people together.”
