Two appliances from Princetown and Tavistock were mobilised to reports of a gorse fire out of control in Holming Beam, Princetown.
On arrival crews discovered approximately three hundred metres of grassland alight. Crews then made pumps four. Further crews from Yelverton and Crownhill and the Incident Command Unit from Greenbank were mobilised.
The incident was then progressing so Further crews from Camels Head, Greenbank, Crownhill and Chagford were mobilised.
The fire front was approximately one mile long being fanned by varying winds. Crews making their way on foot to the fire front to use beaters.
The fire was out just after 5pm this evening. A large area of grassland was destroyed.
