People of all ages and abilities are invited to join Light Up the Bay, a glowing collective ride through Paignton and Torquay. The event is open to everyone who pedals – including children, families, beginners, and experienced riders alike.
This ride is part of My Ride. Our Right, a nationwide evening of glow rides coordinated by Cycling UK. Participants will meet at Paignton Pier at 18:30, take a scenic ride along the seafront to Torquay, loop around the harbour, and finish with an optional social gathering.
The event aims to shine a light on how our streets can be made safer, more welcoming, and more enjoyable for everyone who travels actively after dark. It also demonstrates growing community support for streets that work for people, not just for traffic. Above all, it’s a joyful, inclusive celebration of movement, connection, and the right to travel safely – whatever the time of day.
Everyone is welcome including children (with supervision), families, novices, or seasoned riders. Free battery-powered fairy lights will be available for those who sign up via Eventbrite to decorate their bikes and add to the glow. It will be a relaxed, fun ride with a steady pace and a supportive atmosphere and no one will be left behind.
“Glow up your bike and join us for a fun ride to highlight the need for safe transport options for all,” said organiser Beth Huntley, BYCS Bike Mayor and Founder of Safe, Sustainable Travel Torbay.
