Lightening struck a property in South Molton causing a roof fire just after 4am this morning.
The Fire Service received several calls regarding the fire.
Initially three fire appliances from South Molton, Barnstaple and Chulmleigh attended, on arrival they requested another appliance and the incident command unit also attend.
The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Services team were also mobilised.
The fire service requested the attendance of Western Power to isolate the electrics at this premises.
The roof and first floor of the property was severely damaged. The ground floor sustained severe water damage. Fire crews used a total of 10 breathing apparatus sets, one foam jet, three hose reel jets and ladders to extinguish the fire.
The Environment Agency were made aware of the incident.
By 8am, fire crews were cutting away and damping down hot spots
