Little Stars Childcare Centre Scoops National Nursery Award

Little Stars Childcare Centre, the nursery at Ellacombe C of E Academy in Torquay, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, has won a national Nursery World Award in recognition of its outstanding learning environment.

The nursery was named the winner of the Enabling Environments Award at the Nursery World Awards 2026, recognising settings that create exceptional spaces to support children’s learning, wellbeing and development.

The award follows a remarkable transformation of the nursery over the past two years. What was once a car park has been redeveloped into a dedicated outdoor learning zone, providing opportunities for exploration, sensory play and physical development for nursery children.

Led by nursery lead Yrsa Logan, the project was designed to meet the needs of the nursery’s diverse community, creating an inclusive environment where every child can flourish.

Alongside the outdoor transformation, Little Stars has introduced two purpose-built sensory rooms, expanded its inclusive resources and redesigned learning spaces to encourage independence, creativity and communication.

Parents have spoken of the difference the nursery has made to their families, with one describing Little Stars as “completely different” from other settings and praising the team’s commitment to understanding every child as an individual and helping them build confidence and independence.

The glittering ceremony, which celebrates the best of the early years sector, was hosted by TV presenter and founder of Dadvengers, Nigel Clarke, at The Brewery in London, with entertainment provided by a string quartet.

Alison Helm, Headteacher at Ellacombe CofE Academy, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this national award. Every decision we have made has been centred around creating an environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn. We believe the environment is a teacher in its own right, and we have worked incredibly hard to create spaces that encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence while meeting the individual needs of every child.

“This award is a wonderful reflection of the dedication of our Nursery Lead, Yrsa Logan, and her team, and the support of our families and partners. We are incredibly proud of what Little Stars has achieved.”

Tracey Cleverly, Trust Lead at Learning Academy Partnership, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the Little Stars team and a wonderful recognition of the care, creativity and dedication that has gone into transforming the setting. They have created an environment where every child, whatever their starting point, is given the opportunity to thrive. We are delighted to see their inclusive approach and commitment to providing exceptional early years experiences recognised on a national stage.”
