Local Water Babies raise £1000 for Torbay Hospital Normal Birth Unit

Local Water Babies have been busy making a splash for Torbay Hospital maternity department raising a total of £1000. The little splashers took part in sponsored pirate and princess themed swimming lessons which had them diving for treasure, walking the plank and casting a princess wish.

Kate has been running Water Babies classes across Torbay and South Devon since 2009, when she made a career change from an Emergency Department Doctor to a full time baby swimming teacher. Water Babies Cornwall and South Devon now teach over 600 babies a week. Kate says

“We are thrilled to be able to support our local maternity departments. Almost all of the babies who swim with us will have used the maternity departments and benefitted from the excellent care they deliver. It is fantastic to be able to give something back to them. We are delighted that they money is being spent on making the birthing rooms more like a home-from-home.”

Angela Thompson, Delivery Suite Coordinator at Torbay Hospital, said:

“A huge thank you to Waterbabies for generously donating £1000 to the Delivery Suite Normal Birth Group. We are delighted that this will be used to improve the environment and create a more positive birthing experience for women in south Devon. Fundraising is on-going with the eventual aim of improving the environment in all the birthing rooms. If you have any enquiries about fundraising, please leave message for me with the Directorate Office on 01803 654657.”

Water Babies classes, designed to make the most of babies’ natural affinity with water, teach confidence and safety, uses expert techniques that have been enjoyed by children from just two days old!

Water Babies classes are available across South Devon. For more information, please phone Kate and her friendly team on 01752 605627 email bubbasurf@waterbabies.co.uk or visit www.waterbabies.co.uk.
