Update: M5 closed after body found on carriageway

Update: All carriageways were reopen by 1pm.
It is suspected that the deceased male has fallen from an over bridge onto the M5 and subsequently been hit by a number of vehicles.
Next of kin have been informed.

Part of the M5 has been closed after a body was found this morning.

Police were called to the incident this morning at approximately 2.30am.

Police have located a body of a man deceased in the main carriageway of the M5 near Willand.

An investigation has been started into how the man came to be on the M5.

The northbound carriageway of the M5, between junction 28, Cullompton, and junction 27 Tiverton, has been closed to enable the investigation to take place.

It is expected to be closed for a few hours.

The southbound carriageway was closed earlier but has been reopened.

Diversions are in place in the area and are being managed by the Highways Agency.

The B3181 is also currently closed due to an unrelated water main burst.

Officers will endeavour to open the road as soon as possible.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 101 of 18 October 2014.
