Work has officially begun on a major £50 million improvement scheme for the A382, with the road now closed at the Whitehills junction for around 11 months.

The project, designed to ease congestion, improve safety, and encourage active travel, will see a significant upgrade and re-alignment of the A382 between Forches Cross and Stover (Ice House Copse). It will also deliver the new Jetty Marsh Link Road and the Whitehills Roundabout.

Once the new roundabout is complete, work will shift to Forches Cross, where a further 12-month closure will be required to complete the next stage of the project.

Councillors Visit Site as Work Gets Underway

Councillors and local representatives visited the site on Monday, 29 September, to receive a briefing on the construction programme and the long-term benefits of the scheme.

Traffic Management and Diversions

Traffic management plans have been developed following consultation with local businesses, and access to all local businesses will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Diversion routes are available via the A383 and B3193, with traffic conditions being monitored in real time. Seventeen Variable Message Signs (VMS) in key locations will display the quickest route options to help drivers plan their journeys.

Other temporary measures include:

* Re-programmed traffic light timings
* Greycoat Lane operating one-way
* Ringslade Road closed southbound
* Temporary traffic signals at the Clay Lane / Clay Pits Way junction

Supporting Future Growth

The A382 improvement scheme will also play a key role in unlocking future development outlined in Teignbridge District Council’s Local Plan, supporting housing and employment growth in the area.
