A major fire at Paignton railway station has led to widespread disruption across the town, with train services cancelled, roads closed and emergency services remaining at the scene.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident at around 5:45am on Tuesday, with seven fire crews working to tackle the blaze.
Great Western Railway has confirmed that the railway line between Newton Abbot and Paignton is blocked due to the fire. As a result, train services to Torre, Torquay and Paignton have been cancelled or suspended. The operator has warned passengers that disruption is expected to continue until at least 2pm, although later updates suggest services may not resume for the rest of the day because of damage to signalling and railway infrastructure.
Road closures are also in place around the station, with Torbay Road closed between Queens Road and Victoria Street, while Victoria Street and Hyde Road remain shut. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
Residents living nearby have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke from the fire.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been confirmed. Emergency services remain at the scene and further updates are expected throughout the day.
