A man has died at a nature reserve in South Devon this morning.
A car was reported to have entered the water at Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, Near Kingsbridge sometime after midnight after traveling across grassland and shrubbery.
Police, fire fighters, a fire rescue team and ambulance crews attended the incident.
The male driver was treated by paramedics but was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, although next of kin are being informed.
Police divers will be carrying out a search of the submerged vehicle and surrounding area this morning to confirm there are no other casualties.
Officers from the Force Serious Collisions Investigation Unit have conducted an examination of the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information to assist the investigation are asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 10 of 22/08/14.
