Ellie Johnson, Plymouth based mural artist known as Mrs Murals, has had her work recognised by the West Country Women’s Awards.
Ellie accepted her award during the ceremony held at The Crowne Plaza in Plymouth, having been shortlisted from over 2,000 nominees across the South West region. Mrs Murals was honoured as the Winner in the “Women in Arts, Media and Culture” category.
Trish Caller of Genius PR and Events, the judge for The Women in Arts, Media & Culture Award, shared these remarks: “This category attracted a huge number of nominations from across the West Country. People with theatre, dance, drama, art, music experience etc…
It was a difficult job to whittle down the applications to choose the finalists. The standard of the finalists was extremely high!
Ellie’s application was bursting with examples of her fantastic projects and so many people had supported her and written some amazing quotes about what her work meant to the communities blessed with her murals!
Mrs Murals thoroughly deserved to be announced as our winner! We are thrilled for her!”
Ellie is delighted to have her work recognised, especially for her dedication to community projects. Her recent efforts are evident in Derriford Hospital’s Children’s Theatres and numerous schools throughout South Devon.
Ellie said, “Running a successful business in the arts can be challenging. I truly appreciate the support from my local community, which has played a key role in my success today. I’m also deeply thankful to the wonderful team at The Westcountry Women’s Awards for recognising my business among the remarkable finalists in my category with this incredible honour – it means so much to me!”
At the Westcountry Women’s Awards, 20 different awards were given out. Among the Plymouth-based winners were Mrs Murals and several others: EM-MAgination Craft won Small Business of the Year, It Takes a Village CIC took home the Women in STEM Award, and The Family Law Co received Employer of the Year.
All winners of the West Country Women’s Awards, including Mrs Murals, have been invited to Westminster for a tour of the Houses of Parliament in February.
