Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust has submitted a planning application to Torbay Council to improve parking at Brixham Community Hospital.
The plans include:
· Additional 25 spaces at the Greenwood Road entrance.
· Redesign of the car park layout to improve the flow and access to spaces between the different levels via a ramp.
· Installation of additional lighting.
· Improved pedestrian access and walkways through and around the site.
Subject to final planning permission, it is anticipated that work will begin around February 2015 and be completed in April 2015.
This development forms part of the preparations for the proposed purpose-built integrated care facility on the Brixham Community Hospital site – bringing together the community hospital beds and the existing St Kilda provision under one roof. The new integrated care facility will enable the much needed flexibility to provide community, intermediate, residential and nursing beds depending on the need of the patient. The plans for integrated care also include the provision of GP surgeries, pharmacy, retail units and a café on site – which will create a new health and wellbeing hub for the local community.
Lesley Darke, Head of Estates and Commercial Development at Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust said: “We’ve reached an exciting phase in the development where, subject to planning approval, we will soon be starting work on site and seeing the improvements take shape. The parking plans are the first enabling step in seeing the integrated care vision become reality.”
