Police appeal for witnesses following fatal collision in Plymouth

Police have appealed for witnesses and information following a fatal collision in Plymouth yesterday, Tuesday 17 December.

Emergency services were called to Ham Drive at around 5.20pm to reports of a collision involving a grey Audi and a silver Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Fiesta, a local woman in her 60s sadly died, her next of kin have been informed.

Police have stated that a man in his 30s from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The road was closed whilst investigations took place.

Inspector Jane Corkhill, head of the Serious Collisions Investigation Team, said: “We are deeply saddened that a lady has lost her life in yet another fatal road traffic collision on our Devon and Cornwall’s roads.

“As always, my team are conducting a thorough, complex investigation to provide answers for the victim’s family and friends.

“A local man in his 30s has been arrested and will be assisting us with our enquiries.

“This will undoubtedly cause community tension in the area which will be managed by our colleagues on the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Our thoughts are very much with the victim and her family at this terribly tragic time and they will be supported by specially trained officers throughout the investigation. ”
