Update: M5 closed after body found on carriageway

Police are appealing for witnesses after a body was found on the M5 at the weekend.

Police were called to the M5 northbound between Cullompton (junction 28) and Tiverton (junction 27) on Saturday at 2.30am after a body was found.

The M5 was closed until later that day – the southbound carriageway was reopened at around 7.30am and the northbound carriageway was reopened at lunchtime.

It is believed the man may have fallen from a bridge onto the M5 and subsequently been hit by a number of vehicles.

The 25 year old man lived locally. His family has been informed and formal identification is expected to take place later this week.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 101 of 18 October 2014.
