Devon and Cornwall Police have announced plans for a significant policing operation in Exeter city centre on Saturday 22 November, as two separate protest events are set to take place.

The demonstrations — the “British Unity Walk” and the “Exeter is For Everyone” march — are expected to draw crowds, with both groups assembling from 11am and dispersing by 3.30pm.

Conditions Set to Minimise Disruption
Police say they have been working closely with event organisers, local partners and city businesses to balance the right to peaceful protest with the need to limit disruption in the city centre.

To support this, officers have invoked Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act, which allow them to place legally enforceable conditions on public assemblies and marches. These include restrictions on routes, assembly points, and the overall duration of each event.

Police Message: Peaceful Protest Only
The force is reminding all attendees to follow the conditions set out and emphasises that any disorder — or behaviour putting the public, protestors or officers at risk — will not be tolerated.

An increased police presence will be visible throughout the day, with officers positioned across the city centre to provide reassurance to residents, shoppers and businesses.

Despite the demonstrations, police say the city remains open and encourage people to continue enjoying Exeter’s shops, services and attractions as normal.
