Popular community youth club set to reopen its doors in 2015.

Christmas has come early for young people in Buckland as the local Community Centre is now set to re-launch the youth group in the New Year. After cuts in the Devon Youth Service budget in June resulting in the forced closure of the group. The committee behind the centre have now managed to secure funding from Devon County Council to once again reopen the doors.

Fran Bennett activities coordinator at Buckland Community Centre said “The youth club is a really important part of the lives of the younger children in Buckland. This is often the highlight of the week and there is great excitement not only by the children but also within the community to be able to provide a much needed resource for young people once again”

To celebrate this achievement they are planning a launch party disco this Friday for all children of the area aged between 6 and 11. Promises of Free Pizza, snacks and Drinks are also in the offering. In return children will be asked to add to our ideas wall about what they want from the youth club plus a chance to play some fun games and meet new play leader Steve Michaels and his team of volunteers tasked with bringing the children’s ideas to life.

Steve said “Having a chance to re-launch the club in Buckland is going to be a great experience. So many great volunteers have already come forward with loads of fantastic ideas on experiences we can share with the children in the club. I also can’t wait to see the sort of things that the children come up with. I am sure with the team we have behind us that we will be able to make many memories that children will remember well into the future.”

Steve goes on to say “If you want to know more about joining the youth group as either a volunteer or if you want to bring your child along please have a look at our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/BMYGroup or you can call Buckland and Milber Community Centre on 01626 206690 alternatively you can email coordinator@newtonabbotcic.org.uk. The Disco like the youth club is open to all 6-11 year old children and parents will need to deliver and collect their children on the night. Doors open at 6.30pm and the night finishes at 8.30pm.”
