St Michael’s C of E Academy children explore the coast through hands-on learning

Reception pupils at St Michael’s C of E Academy, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, have been discovering the wonders of the coast through a series of exciting beach school sessions led by Seaside Adventurers.

The outdoor learning programme gave children the opportunity to explore their local environment while developing their understanding of sea safety, marine life and the natural world through fun, practical activities.

Throughout the sessions, pupils worked together to investigate the beach, learn about the wildlife found along the coastline and develop confidence through hands-on exploration, all while enjoying time outdoors with their friends.

The beach school programme is designed to help children develop a deeper appreciation of the environment, supporting learning beyond the classroom.

St Michael’s C of E Academy is committed to providing enriching learning experiences that help children develop academically, socially and emotionally, while making the most of the unique opportunities available within the local community.

Julie Edwards, Head of Academy at St Michael’s C of E Academy, said:

“Our children have absolutely loved their beach school sessions with Seaside Adventurers. These experiences provide such a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about the world around them in a fun and practical way. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful coastal environment on our doorstep and it’s been fantastic to see our youngest learners making the most of it.”

Tracey Cleverly, Trust Lead at Learning Academy Partnership, said:

“Some of the best learning happens when children are given the opportunity to explore, ask questions and experience the world around them first hand. Programmes like beach school also help children develop a lifelong appreciation for the natural environment while encouraging them to become confident and responsible citizens.”

A packed autumn of entertainment is coming to Paignton’s Palace Theatre

“We absolutely love welcoming St Michael’s School to Seaside Adventurers! Today’s young adventurers are tomorrow’s guardians of our coastline, and when the children build a connection with the beach, they learn to respect it, protect it and care for it. Alongside creating memories that hopefully inspire a lifetime of adventure, the children gain essential skills to stay safe at the seaside, grow in confidence and, in my opinion, discover that the natural world is one of the very best classrooms.”
