Repair and safety works are continuing along the Teignmouth seafront after consecutive storms caused significant damage to coastal infrastructure.
Teams from Teignbridge District Council have been assessing and repairing affected areas following the impact of Storm Ingrid last week. Clean-up operations were then slowed by the arrival of Storm Chandra over the weekend, which brought further severe weather, widespread flooding and travel disruption across the district.
Following safety inspections, several areas in Teignmouth have been identified as requiring urgent attention.
Temporary pedestrian fencing has been installed along St Michael’s Promenade, where damaged railings were removed to allow the path to remain open. The skate park and The Point have been closed off after storm waves damaged walls, paving slabs and copings. However, the main promenade areas on either side will remain open to the public.
Residents are being urged to avoid any fenced-off sections or areas that appear visibly unsafe.
Storm conditions have also destroyed part of the historic Teignmouth Pier. While the pier is privately owned, Teignbridge District Council has confirmed it is in contact with the owner and will continue to monitor the situation.

Significant amounts of debris are still being washed up along the coastline, and people are strongly advised to stay away from beaches and coastal paths, particularly during high tides, until conditions improve.
Public safety remains the priority as recovery efforts continue and weather conditions remain unsettled.
