Update: Road has reopened and police have left the scene.

The Strand in Torquay is currently closed due to an accident.

The A378 is closed both ways between The terrace/Parkhill Road and Shedden Hill/Belgrave road junctions.

The accident is reported to have happened around 7pm.

Traffic in the area is heavy and motorists at the seafront side of the Strand have said traffic is at a standstill.

Two people, a man and a woman are reported to have been injured following a collision with a vehicle.

Police have been at the scene gathering evidence. The pedestrian crossing has been taped off.

The road remains closed.

We will update when information becomes available.
