Woman found in Stoke Gabriel after full scale search

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Ashburton) received a full team call out at 17:45 this evening (21 November)

A female student from Exeter called the police on her mobile phone after she found herself disorientated this evening after she was caught out by mist on the Avon Dam Reservoir area of south Dartmoor.

“Our Search Manager was contacted and initiated a full team callout at 17:45. Whilst our volunteers made their way to the area, our Search Manager managed to contact the walker by phone and having made an assessment of her rough location, advised her to head South and follow water courses.

On arrival of our volunteers our Search Manager then directed a team on to the moor to the west side of the Avon Dam Reservoir, and shortly before 19:00 the lady was located by the team, safe and well.”

Following the successful find by team members, the Search Manager said:

“The lady did the right thing. She had been caught out by the thick mist in the area and called for help. Our volunteers train for this type of incident and and we are glad we were able to locate her quickly. She was none the worse for her ordeal but perhaps a little wiser in that the weather on the moor can catch you out and you need to be prepared.”

Great work yet again by Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.
