Residents will see continued investment in essential services and community priorities after Teignbridge District Council approved its balanced budget for 2026/27.
At a Full Council meeting held on 26 February, councillors agreed a 2.99% increase in council tax. For a Band D property, this represents an additional £6.05 per year, bringing the Teignbridge portion of the annual bill to £208.33.
The council confirmed it will continue to provide 100% council tax support for residents who need financial assistance, ensuring help remains available to those most affected by the cost of living.
Ongoing Support for Community Groups
The new budget maintains strong backing for local voluntary and community organisations. Core grants will increase by 4% over the next three years, offering greater stability to groups delivering frontline services and activities across the district.
Councillors’ Community Funds will also remain in place at £1,000 per Member, helping to support small grassroots projects that make a difference locally.
Investing in Infrastructure and Housing
The council is maintaining £1.5 million in revenue contributions towards essential infrastructure investment. Funding will support improvements in:
* Housing delivery
* Environmental projects
* Community facilities
Investment continues under the council’s One Teignbridge strategy, with priority areas including:
* Delivery of affordable housing and new social rented homes through the *Homes4Teignbridge programme
* Town centre regeneration projects
* Environmental improvements and carbon reduction initiatives
* Increasing the supply of council-owned homes to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation
Leisure, Travel and Connectivity Improvements
The capital programme also includes funding for:
* Upgrades and enhancements to leisure centres
* Improvements to cycling and walking routes
* Infrastructure projects that boost connectivity, environmental wellbeing and the local economy
Residents Back Proposals
The budget was shaped by feedback from a public consultation held between December and February. A total of 544 residents, businesses and organisations responded, with 74% supporting the proposed council tax increase.
With the budget now approved, the council says it is focused on protecting vital services while continuing to invest in housing, environmental sustainability and thriving local communities across Teignbridge.
