The English Riviera will play host to one of the region’s biggest sporting events this weekend, as more than 3,000 runners line up for the 2025 Torbay Half Marathon and 10K on Sunday, 21st September.
The event, which starts and finishes at Paignton Green (TQ4 6AG), will see participants of all ages and abilities take to the roads from 9:15am onwards. Athletes are travelling from across the UK to enjoy the scenic seaside course, which has become a highlight of the South West running calendar.
This year’s race will be officially started by a trio of local sporting figures: Brendon Prince, world champion paddleboarder, alongside Mark-Boyes Cavanagh and Michael Westcott, co-chairmen of Torquay United FC. A lively mass warm-up will kick off the festivities before the half marathon begins.
Among the thousands taking part are some well-known faces. Shaun Dixon, silver medalist at the 2025 British Championships 100km, will test himself over the half marathon distance, while Paul Wotton, manager of Torquay United, will also be on the start line. In addition, a determined charity fundraiser will be completing their 50th marathon at the event.
Local charity Rowcroft Hospice will have a strong presence too, with a team of 300 runners helping to raise vital funds for the much-loved organisation.
Spectators are encouraged to come along to Paignton Green to cheer on participants and soak up the atmosphere of what promises to be an inspiring community day.
